With a name inspired by what I’m eating at this time, I’m proud to announce the 1st Beans Game Jam on Starmen.net. Any program can be used, games should be uploaded to itch.io and linked, and it is encouraged, but not required, that you make a game around the theme. This year’s theme is “Animals and Boxes”. The game jam begins September 18th, and ends September 19th. The games won’t be judged like a standard game jam, but giving feedback to your fellow developers is always appreciated. Like always, have fun, and Happy developing!

I guess I will be the opening act of the jam!

So, below is a game made in bitsy, about some funny little dogs and their “maze” which is at your leisure to explore. The game is super casual, like my last outing into bitsy development, however there is an optional series of 7 “dog treat boxes” that you can collect! I hope you enjoy my funny little collection of dogs. There are some small nuisances I’d like to fix in this game but honestly I’m so sick of working on this thing I’m literally out of steam to fix any of them! So apologies in advance for any minor frustration! If reception is high enough for this, I would absolutely be willing to “finalize” the game and make it perfect, but since this is a game jam, you’ll have to just take it in this finished but not perfect state!

No more beating around the bush! Please enjoy this… video game?

You can play the game in your browser btw!!

Some advice to avoid said nuisances! When exiting a “dog room” into a new “maze room” (that meaning one with three different directions to go), DO NOT PRESS THE RIGHT OR LEFT KEY, you will be teleported to one of the other “routes” you took before/could’ve taken before. If you wish to move on to the next series of rooms, press the “down” key on your keyboard to avoid this happening (this should work for all of the rooms, if it does not sorry!). once you press down you are free to press any directional key you so please!!

A moth I am… not.

Here is my game, Long Animals:

https://cassowary.itch.io/long-animals

It’s a little game/webtoy based on the famous Tower of Hanoi puzzle. Your goal is to move all the animals to the space marked “goal”, without ever putting a longer animal on top of a shorter animal. This puzzle has many interesting mathematical properties; see this video for example.

Once you get them to the other side, you will be rewarded with a new animal, and the goal will move to the opposite side.

Controls are J/K/L to pick up/drop off an animal from/to the three different piles, and R to reset the entire game (and choose different animals)

If you’re trying to get to the right, your first move should be moving the smallest animal to the furthest-right space.
If you’re trying to get to the left, your first move should be moving the smallest animal to the middle space.

You should always move the biggest animal you can, except if that would result in you undoing your last move, in which case you should move the smallest animal one space to the left (or to the furthest-right space if it can’t move further left).

Here is my game, The Box Casino
A card game made in RPG Maker VX Ace. No rpg combat here, just dialogue and rock paper scissors.

https://slibmagus.itch.io/beanjamboxcasino

I apologize for the file size. It kinda dragged in RPG Maker’s assets even though I didn’t use most of them.

It’s brief, but I liked the idea of a game about Rock Paper Scissors where you exchange dialogue with the enemy
and they drop some hints about what cards they will be playing, along with facial animations that change in the duel.

A bit like the anime Kaiji, but I wasn’t able to get as deep with the mechanics as I wished.

Tchee tchee tchee!
